You finally did it.Ā You worked with a brand designer (or maybe went full detective mode and DIYed your brand). Now youāve got some gorgeous, custom fonts that actually make your brand look unique and polishedāinstead of like every other Canva template out there.
But now what?Ā How do you actually get those beautiful fonts into CanvaĀ so you can use them in your graphics, freebies, and social media content without resorting to the same five overused Canva script fonts? (Looking at you, Playlist Script.)
No worriesā I got you.Ā Below, Iāll walk you through exactly how to upload your brand fonts into Canva ProĀ so you can start using them across all your designs.
Quick Note:Ā Uploading custom fonts to Canva requires a Canva Pro account.Ā If youāre using the free version, you wonāt be able to upload custom fonts, but you canĀ still access some premium fonts that Canva provides.
Step-by-Step: How to Upload Your Brand Fonts to Canva
š„ Watch the tutorial below to see exactly how to upload your brand fonts into Canva Pro.Ā Itās super easy, and I promise it takes less than 5 minutes.
Quick Recap of the Steps (For My Skimmers šāāļø)
If youāre more of a "just give me the steps"Ā kind of person, hereās the rundown:
1ļøā£ Log into your Canva Pro account.
2ļøā£ Click on "Brand" from the left-hand menu.Ā (This takes you to your Brand Kit.)
3ļøā£ Scroll down to the āBrand Fontsā section.
4ļøā£ Click āUpload a font.ā
5ļøā£ Select your custom font file (.OTF or .TTF) from your computer.
6ļøā£ Once uploaded, confirm that you have the right to use this font.Ā (Basically, donāt steal fontsāyour brand deserves better than that.)
7ļøā£ Boom! Your custom font is now in Canva!Ā š Use it in any design by selecting it under āBrand Fonts.ā
Pro Tip:Ā If your fonts arenāt showing up immediately, refresh Canva and try again.
Why You NEED Custom Brand Fonts (If You Want to Stand Out)
Listen, I think I speak for the entire design communityĀ when I say: STOP USING THE SAME BASIC CANVA FONTS AS EVERYONE ELSE.Ā š
Hereās the deal: Canva has millions of users, and that means millions of people are using the same fonts you are.Ā If youāre relying on Canvaās free font library for your brand identity, youāre basically wearing the same H&M sweaterĀ as everyone else at the party. Cute, but forgettable.
Your fonts are a core part of your brand identityā just like your color palette, logo, and visuals. If they look generic, your brand looks generic.
Where to Find Custom Fonts for Your Brand
Not sure where to grab your own fonts? Here are some of my favorite places to find gorgeous, unique fontsĀ for any budget:
š Creative MarketĀ ā Huge variety of fonts from indie designers.
š Font SquirrelĀ ā Free fonts (that are actually good).
š BehanceĀ ā Designers sometimes share free and paid fonts here.
š MyFontsĀ ā A massive library of high-end fonts.
š° How much should you expect to spend?
Budget fonts: $10-$50
Premium fonts: $100-$500+
Free fonts: Just make sure they have a commercial license!
Custom Fonts = Instant Brand Elevation
If youāre still on the fence about investing in custom fonts, letās put it this way:
Would you pay $5,000 for a Louis Vuitton bag that comes in a Target plastic bag?
Nope. Because packaging matters.Ā Your fonts? Theyāre part of your brandās visual packaging.
If you want to charge premium prices, people need to see premium designĀ when they interact with your brand. Your fonts set the tone before someone even reads a single word.
š” Think about your favorite beauty or lifestyle brands. I guarantee youāre not just buying their products because they workā youāre also obsessed with how they look and feel.Ā Fonts shape your audienceās perceptionĀ before they ever experience your product or service.
Now Itās Your Turn! š
Youāve got your custom fontsĀ and now you know how to upload them into CanvaĀ like a pro. But donāt just stop there! And if you havenāt yet, go grab yourself a custom font ASAP.Ā Your brand will thank you.Ā š
